Must see films:

With the nominations for the Golden Globes out, the Oscar season is officially started.  So right now is the time of year that studios tend to release their award-worthy films.  So many movies to see!  Here’s my short list:

  1. Avatar. My must see.  I’m going to see it this weekend in IMAX 3D.  James Cameron is a brilliant filmmaker and this film is reputed to have the most amazing special effects ever.  Cameron was behind films like Titanic, Alien, Terminator 1 and 2, True Lies, and Abyss.  He says that the technology in this film will change the industry.  With his track record, I don’t put it past him.
  2. Up In the Air. This is the film with all of the Oscar buzz.  It’ll be released wide before Christmas, it’s directed by the guy who made Juno, and George Clooney is supposed to be at his funniest.  Though you haven’t heard about this film yet, it already has a nomination for every major category in the Golden Globes. You should be hearing about it soon.
  3. Princess and the Frog. Disney is doing what they do best.  I’m not sure why they ditched conventional animation, but I’m glad to see them return to it!
  4. A Single Man. This acclaimed movie has a very interesting look and seems to feature an amazing performance by Colin Firth.
  5. Sherlock Holmes. This seems like a fun, action-packed blockbuster that seems clever.  Robert Downey Jr. is consistent and I’m looking forward to seeing this one.
  6. Precious. This was at the top of my list and I really enjoyed it. This was a very compelling story and the actress who played Precious Jones, Gabby Sidibe, is a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination.

I have a lot of movies to see, for sure.  If you’ve seen these or if any of these sound good to you, drop me a line!  Great movies and company with friends is always fun.
